Holland and 3. Mary //. She married (1) Henry Patterson Pitcock January 05, 1846 in Monroe Co., KY.. He was born March 23, 1822 in Monroe Co.,KY., and died January 25, 1908 in Barren Co.,KY.. John H. Holland, born October 24, 1809 in KY.; died September 1883 in Metcalfe Co.,KY.. He was the son of 4. William Holland and 5. Lavina Lewis. He married 3. Mary // Abt. 1829. 3. Mary //, born 1811 in VA.; died Aft. 1883. Notes for John H. Holland: He was a blacksmith according to Monroe Co. 1850 census. On 1860 Metcalfe Co. census. Metalfe Co. was formed from Monroe Co. in 1860. John Holland's real estate was valued at $2,000 and personal property at $1,000 on census, occupation farmer. John and Mary are on the1870 Metcalfe Co. census and their grandson was living with them. Real estate valued at $1,400 and personal at $1,250. On April 19, 1855 C.C. Holland sells 30 acres of land on Glovers Creek to his father for the sum of $100. Signed: C. Cyrus Holland. This recorded in Barren Co., Ky. This is land that will later be divided into Metcalfe Co. On Feb. 16, 1869 W.H. Whitlow & his wife America A. sell 52 1/4 acres for the sum of $400 to John Holland. Lying in the county of Metcalfe on the waters of Glovers Creek. Also on Feb. 9, 1870 he bought six acres from J.R. Witty for the sum of $70. Land located on Glovers Creek. On Sept. 14, 1877 John H. Holland buys 2 acres of land on Glovers Creek from J.W. McD'Moore & his wife Fannie of Summer Shade. On Sept. 6, 1883 (the month John died) he sold James McMurtrey a lot of land in the village of Summer Shade for the amount of $15.00, containing one fourth of an acre. Recorded in Metcalfe Co., Ky. Deed Book 7 page 400 & 401. His will was written Nov. 3, 1875. Give to grand daughter, Mary Elizabeth Holland, all the lands deeded by Whitlow & Witty (the place where her mother Malinda Holland lives) containing 58 acres. Give to wife, Mary, all of my estate, consisting of land in and around Summer Shade, household, all the stock, tools, wagons, buggy, cash, etc. At her death, to be sold & proceeds to be equally divided between grandchildren, except for land given to Mary Elizabeth Holland. proved in court Sept. 24, 1883 Metcalfe Co., Ky. He died sometime between the 10th & the 24th of Sept. 1883. Notes for Mary //: Last name could possibly be Randolph, Carroll or Cyrus. MSA S 1161-3-6 Location: 1/4/5/46 From the above names, we probably have the father's of both William & Lavina Lewis Holland listed, but which ones? LSC A William Holland buys from William Hague in Morgan Co., TN. for the sum of $30 containing 50 acres on the waters of Little Emory's River. This was purchased on June 23, 1828. John & Mary Holland have twins in Morgan Co., Tn. in 1832. John & Mary's son, Lewis have 2 son's, first one they named, John H., no doubt for his father, & the second son was William C. for his grandfather. William Holland received a Rev. War Pension in Morgan Co., TN. & his wife received the pension in Barren Co., KY. He served in Maryland Militia as Private; 6 months in Capt. Samuel Drig's Co., Col. Peter Adams & Richardson's Reg'ts. 4 months in Col. Richardson's Reg't, was in a skirmish with the Tories and took about 30 prisoners. 2 months in Capt. Richard Andrew's Co., Col. Peter Adam's Reg't. He was allowed a pension on this application executed Oct. 23, 1833 while living in Morgan Co., TN. (pension claim W. 9065). A William Holland bought 153 acres of land in E. Roane Co., TN. on Nov. 29, 1805 from John Smith. I am not sure if this is the same William or not. A William Holland married Fanny Stile on Nov. 14, 1806/07 in Wilson Co.,TN. Do not know if this connects or not. Notes for Lavina Lewis: She is buried in Holland Cem. in Metcalfe Co.,KY. From The Tompkinsville News Vol 1 compiled by Sandi Gorin on p.131 it mentions: The first record of business done at Mill Creek Baptist Church, which was held on the 2nd Sat. in Nov. 1840 was to receive LEVINA HOLLAND by letter. (Mill Creek Baptist Church #1, Monroe Co KY. Records of the split, membership shown thru 1890's. Known as Old Mulkey. 63 pages, $14.00. by Sandra K. Gorin) From Metcalfe Co., Ky. Cemetery Records Vol. I lists the Holland-Oleanan Cemetery that was copied on Oct. 23, 1977. It is located .6 mile west on Hwy. 90 from the Hwy. 640 junction, turn right at Dewey Palmore's farm. Travel about 0.3 mile. The cemetery is on the left on a hill about 500 ft. off the road on Jack Flower's property. 36 degree 53'36" 85 degree 42'58". Three graves identified & 14 unidentifiable. The three identified were Lavina & her two grandsons: Lewis C. & Carroll C. Holland. (These two were box crypts.) Martha Powell Reneau & I uncovered her grave in 1998 that was completely covered over. We stood it up to take a picture of it, but laid it back down again. Cemetery has many fieldstone graves. On mortality index her name is spelled Levina Holland. Other descendants have her name listed as Lovina "Lovey" Lewis also. Lewis C. Holland gravestone. b. Aug. 3, 1832 d. Feb. 12, 1859 This was a box crypt. Broken in pieces. Box crypts are false tombs because the corpse was not placed in them, but was buried in the ground in the standard manner and the crypt erected on top. |
Carroll Cyrus Holland gravestone b. Dec. 28, 1829 d. Mar. 8, 1858 This was also a box crypt located close to his brother's crypt. Lots of underbrush growing around these crypts. |
